What is an Intentional Interim Pastor, Anyway?

The intentional interim pastor is intended to help our congregation deal with the loss of our dear Rev. Willard after his forty year tenure here. No, Rev. Willard is not dead, but now that he is retired, he will not be our pastor, and any new pastor who comes in is likely to be compared to him (after all, who can replace him?) and statistics show that any pastor we may hire would turn out to be an interim pastor because of the difficulty of accepting any immediate replacement as a permanent replacement for Jim. So the idea is to hire a pastor who intentionally will be an interim pastor.

The man we have chosen to lead us through this difficult time of dealing with our loss, helping us adjust to the change, and finding a new permanent pastor is Rev. Dr. Charles Horvath. Dr. Horvath comes to us with a good deal of experience in interim pastoral work in several churches in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, and is also a retired Air Force Chaplain (as a Lieutenant Colonel). He has a MBA and PhD in Management, and to top it all off recently competed his Interim Pastorate training with Interim Pastor Ministries.

Dr. Horvath is also a member of the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference and was recommended to us by them.
